In addition to the Middle Years Development Instrument (last administered in 2022/23 in Grade 5 and Grade 8 classes), the district participated in the Youth Development Instrument (YDI) for the first time in 2023/24. The YDI collects population-level youth development data that may be broadly used to better understand the developmental trends, health, and well-being of adolescents in British Columbia (BC). 

 

This past year, the YDI was administered amongst Grade 11 students in all secondary schools, to further explore the environments, experiences, and health and well-being of youth from youth’s own perspectives as they navigate late adolescence and enter young adulthood.

 

The YDI questionnaire collects population-level youth development data across its five developmental dimensions:

  • Social and Emotional Development
  • Social Well-Being
  • Physical and Mental Well-Being
  • Learning Environment and Engagement
  • Navigating the World

 

YDI results continue to inform initiatives required in the area of Social and Emotional Learning. Below is a snapshot of specific data captured in this recent administration in Spring, 2024:
