Innovation and Inquiry

In the curriculum, big ideas represent what students will understand. They are intended to endure, transfer to new contexts, and contribute to future understanding. Inquiry is the process for developing students’ knowledge and understanding through active, open-minded exploration of meaningful questions, problems, or issues. We are focusing on how learning through big ideas and inquiry will strengthen students’ abilities to apply their learning today and in the future.

Assessment is intended to provide timely, specific feedback so students will know, do, and understand what they are learning, how they are learning, and be able to set goals for future learning. We are focusing on how engaging students in the processes of assessment and communicating student learning strengthens their understanding, communication, and thinking. Our focus is also intended to enhance parents’ understanding of and engagement with their children’s learning.

Social Emotional Learning

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which our students acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to support them as they grow into healthy, self-aware, and contributing adults. We are focusing on how developing students’ self awareness and social responsibility competencies will strengthen their understanding of themselves and their ability to contribute positively to our communities.
