The Equity in Action Project represents the current direction being taken by School Districts with the Department of Indigenous Education in the Ministry of Education to address systemic barriers impacting Indigenous student achievement. A focus on ‘equity of opportunity’ and a co-constructive approach drives a comprehensive review of practices and policies that may create obstacles for Indigenous learners in the B.C. public school system. In 2021-22, the Richmond School District continued this important process. This year, we focussed on the collection of data from both elementary and secondary Indigenous students and their families.

Indigenous Student Success

Evidence

The data from students and their families shows us that there is more we can do to create a sense of belonging for Indigenous students and their families and thus there will be a focus on working with our Indigenous community to improve a sense of belonging in our schools.
