In contemplating the ADST curriculum, we wanted to seek a way to engage students repeatedly within the design process. We sought to pursue this using the library both because the space offered more freedom in the building process for the students, and because it would allow us to design experiences that could be used not only by one classroom, but by the entire school. Students were engaged in a variety of engineering challenges and tasks. These included the opportunity to work together in partners and groups, to observe the work of others and incorporate that into their designs, to work with and understand the strengths and drawbacks of different materials, and the chance to revisit tasks and build upon their learning. This was supported through the use of self-reflection throughout the building process.
