As we continue to work closely and carefully with the Children and Youth who are in care, we are very aware of the importance of the protective benefit provided by building strong adult connections for these young people in our schools.  Each Child and Youth in Care is assigned an adult mentor, who builds a casual and supportive relationship with the CYC, supporting the development of SEL skills and reinforcing and ensuring the connection with at least one adult in the school. For some of our staff, this is a relatively new role, and so we are keen to inquire into the adults' experience of mentoring. Do they feel prepared for the role? Are there additional resources that they need to support their work? Is there specific training that would help them? We plan to survey the mentors in January to help determine our next steps.
