A couple of our teachers (at SLSS) are supporting the student-led Indigenous Languages club. The club’s goals are to provide a place for engagement with Indigenous languages, focusing on Hən̓q̓imən̓əm̓ and Ojibway, and Indigenous cultural practices and events. Some student-led contributions the club has made to our school community are hosting an Ojibway dreamcatcher workshop, hosting a smudge ceremony, creating holiday creating cards in Ojibway and Hən̓q̓imən̓əm̓, and learning to make a land acknowledgment in Ojibway and Hən̓q̓imən̓əm̓, which was then given by students at a staff meeting and other important school events. Finally, the club is planning to host future workshops including beading, MMIWG2S+, cultural foods, and more.
