David Yang (he/him) is a public sector professional in the BC Public Service and has called Richmond home for the past 15 years. Growing up in an immigrant family, David attended Cook Elementary and MacNeill Secondary before completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of British Columbia in 2020. Elected in 2022, David is serving his first term as Richmond School Trustee.
As a former student in the Richmond School District, David served as a SD38 Student Ambassador and Richmond Green Ambassador, advocating for student and youth issues such as student voice, climate change and sustainability, and student mental health support. He has also previously served as a member of the BC Youth Parliament and as Student Council President.
Outside of work, David enjoys spending time volunteering in his local community. He has served as a member of the Richmond Sister City Advisory Committee and volunteers as a coach for the Richmond Minor Ball Hockey Association.
David believes that Richmond deserves an equitable, safe, and inclusive public school system for all students, regardless of their identity or ability. This means making decisions that best support students so that they all have an opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. David is committed to strengthening public education in our community and seeking innovative ways to improve the well-being of learners, educators, and everyday residents.
