This week, members of the East and Southeast Asian communities will celebrate the Lunar New Year, one of the most important celebrations in the lunar calendar.
Lunar New Year, is a time for families to come together, exchange gifts, and feast on traditional foods. The celebration is steeped in ancient traditions, including the lighting of fireworks, lion and dragon dances, and the giving of red envelopes.
Lunar New Year is also an opportunity to highlight the many past and current contributions of the East and Southeast Asian communities who have helped make our country better, fairer, and more inclusive. These communities have played a vital role in shaping our diverse cultural landscape and continue to contribute to our economic, social, and political fabric.
The Richmond School District wishes all a happy and prosperous Lunar New Year.
