The Richmond School District offers students the opportunity to write Advanced Placement (AP) exams each spring. AP exams allow students to earn university-level credit or advanced standing, depending on their results and post-secondary institution policies.

AP exam registration is available only to students currently enrolled in one of Richmond’s ten secondary schools and who have a valid student number.

Registration Process

Step 1: Determine Your Registration Method (School-Based or District Site)

Please refer to the registration chart to determine where to register for your desired course based on your school.

If your school is administering the AP exam, you must register directly with your school administrator. This applies even if you are self-studying and not enrolled in the AP course.

If you are unsure where to register, please contact your school administrator before completing any forms.

Please note that space is limited and registration does not guarantee placement. In cases where demand exceeds capacity, priority will be given to Grade 12 students based on order of registration.

Step 2: Complete the Online Form (District Site)

If your school does not offer that AP exam and it is listed under the “District Site” in the chart above, complete the online registration form using the link below:

Step 3: Verification and Join Code

After the form is submitted, the Richmond School District will verify your eligibility. Verified students will receive an email before November 6 with a unique join code and instructions to register through the College Board AP system. Students will have four (4) days to complete registration using the join code.

Important: Completing the Microsoft Form does not register you for the AP Exam. You must also create a College Board AP account and register with the provided join code.

Fees and Deadlines

  • Each exam costs $175.
  • The registration deadline is November 3. No late registrations will be accepted.
  • Once registered, you will receive an email with payment instructions.
  • Payment must be completed within seven (7) days. Unpaid registrations will be cancelled.
  • No refunds will be issued.

Summary of Key Dates:
Students must register by November 3. Verified students will receive join codes before November 6, have four days to complete College Board registration, and seven days to submit payment once instructions are sent.

For questions about AP exam registration, please contact your school administrator.
