The Richmond School District has a long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship. We are working to reduce our impact on the environment, support sustainable practices in our schools, and prepare for the challenges of climate change. Our work is guided by Policy 512.14.1 – Environmental Stewardship and related regulations.
Current Initiatives
District Sustainability and Climate Action Plan
This plan is the district’s strategy to reach our greenhouse gas reduction and sustainability goals across all schools and facilities.
Building Temperature Awareness Campaign
Heating accounts for about 90 per cent of the district’s greenhouse gas emissions. This campaign helps staff and students understand how schools are heated and cooled, and provides simple steps to stay comfortable while reducing emissions and costs.
Climate Change Projections Summary
The district has studied the risks and vulnerabilities posed by climate change and extreme weather at selected facilities to better plan for the future.
