Integrated Academics (IA) is an alternate graduation program for Grade 11 and 12 students who are working towards a regular BC high school diploma/Dogwood Certificate. The IA program was founded in 1992 at Matthew McNair Secondary School to support senior-level high school students with graduation and transition to post-secondary activities. The program holds a “village” philosophy to support and care for students, understanding that it is pivotal to have positive connections to adults at school. We teach the “whole” student meaning we recognize that academic struggles are often a symptom of other challenges a student may be facing.

Program Structure
Our classrooms follow the structure of a mainstream secondary environment. While learning support is available, this is not a resource program. Integrated Academic provides adaptations and support to fill learning gaps, identify areas of struggle, and meet grade level learning outcomes. Students earn credits that are the same as mainstream classes. Graduates of Integrated Academics apply to post-secondary education opportunities with no barriers.

Integrated Academics students are McNair students with access to all school clubs, elective courses, teams, and events. Student transcripts and graduation diplomas do not indicate an alternate education pathway.
