The Station Stretch site hosts 4 specialized alternate programs.
Horizons
Horizons is a student-centered learning environment. Our goal is to provide educational and therapeutic support to enable students to return to their community school or transition to other programs. It is an inter-ministerial, interdisciplinary program for adolescents who have struggled in the mainstream system. We service students aged 13-17 who struggle with significant mental health challenges that interfere with academic success. The program combines academic and social/emotional skill development with therapeutic support to address the needs of each youth.
Outreach
The Community Outreach Program serves youth who experience learning, mental health and/or behavioural challenges, serving a caseload of secondary students who are not currently enrolled in an SD 38 school. As the program only offers students a part-time schedule, Outreach teachers have had the most success in working with older students who have the opportunity to transfer to an Adult Grad program, or who are only a few courses away from graduating. Outreach teachers also work closely with MCFD, mental health professionals, probation officers, and other community agencies, in supporting these students' transition to district educational services.
Stretch (Grades 9 – 10)
Stretch is an academic completion program for students who would benefit from small class sizes, a system of accountability, and additional support and feedback. The program can accommodate students who need to complete Grade 8 to 10 in the subjects of English, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Stretch recognizes that there are diverse learners who would benefit from different settings and strategies.
Streetview (Grades 11 – 12)
Streetview is an alternative education program at Station Stretch Minoru site. The program is intended for Grade 11 and 12 students on a Dogwood or Adult graduation path, providing continuous enrolment throughout the school year.
Students in the program must be capable of meeting academic course requirements. Components of the program are both teacher-led and self-directed. Streetview students are often referred because of impacts in learning from factors such as mental and/or physical health challenges, addiction recovery, social anxiety, behaviour issues, and histories of trauma. Staff work with external agencies to support students with wrap-around supports to meet graduation requirements in flexible ways.
